Intimate Affair…

2020 has been such a strange year! COVID-19 is something that none of us had on our radar. Jane and Eugene were set to have a beautiful wedding last May at the Legion of Honor, which was postponed to August after the shelter-in mandate in March. Since they were unable to have the wedding with family and friends this month, they found a quiet place in Santa Cruz where they said their vows and were married. We will all wait to see how this virus and vaccine plays out… hopefully, there will be a celebration sometime next year. Wishing all the best to a beautiful couple!

COVID -19 Didn’t Stop Them!!

As a wedding planner, it has been a heartbreaking time working with couples who have had to postpone or cancel their wedding altogether. Wedding planning is emotional and stressful enough without the effects of this pandemic! Emily and Parris had a big wedding for 200 guests planned ~ parts of it were to be held at the bride’s family home, a ceremony at St. Ignatius and finally the reception at the Westin St. Francis. They are such a wonderful, thoughtful couple and were so looking forward to the big day. As April approached, it was clear that due to the state mandate for sheltering in place and no gatherings over 10 people that their dream wedding would have to be postponed. St. Ignatius graciously allowed them to be married on their wedding date if they limited guests to family only and no more than 10 people in the church at one time. Vicens Forns, the photographer, and Max Fannin Video, were able to rotate in and out to get some wonderful shots of this emotional ceremony. This photo made it to television, newspapers and to John Krasinski’s, Some Good News, clip! Emily and Parris, you are now married to the love of your life, which is most important. We will get through all of the rest together! Congratulations!

Cut the Cake!!

Kate and Jeff were to be married last Friday at the Top of the Mark at the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins Hotel. It was to be an intimate celebration with family and close friends complete with a motorized cable car champagne tour of the city between the ceremony and the dinner reception. With the statewide shelter in place mandate, they had to cancel their plans of coming to San Francisco. BUT, that did not stop them! Kate baked a wedding cake, and they celebrated at home! Not to worry… there will be a wonderful wedding happening hopefully this summer!

Live Streaming the Big Day!!

Yesterday, Miles and Monica were to be married at Grace Cathedral followed by a reception at the University Club in San Francisco. The wedding had to be postponed two weeks ago due to COVID-19. It was devastating to them and heartbreaking to those who were to celebrate this big day with them. Yesterday morning, I got the news that Miles and Monica had decided to live stream their wedding from Washington. It was absolutely wonderful! The plans for the wedding day have been rescheduled for 2021, but this was a creative way to celebrate their original wedding date. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Canady!!

Just a gut feeling!!

Cory and Olivia’s wedding at the Sequoyah Country Club last Sunday was my first for 2020. I don’t take a lot of day-of coordination jobs, but when Olivia called and wanted assistance with her wedding, I just had a gut feeling. Their wedding was a few months away, and with everyone’s busy schedules, we never met until the day of the wedding rehearsal. I never do that! Again, it was just a gut feeling. They are such a beautiful couple inside and out, and their families are just as lovely! Plus, I worked with a great team of vendors (Victoria Marshall of Victoria’s Florals, DJ E.T. Hazzard, and Shona Nystrom of Studio 7 Teen Photographic Artistry) to create a very special day… one of my all time favorites! Congratulations Olivia and Cory!

Moon River and Me…

From the moment I met Alex and Danny, I couldn’t wait for their wedding! Their energy was infectious, and their love for each other was very evident. Guiding them through the wedding planning process was a lot of fun. Now that the wedding is over, I feel a void in not being able to talk with them! They put so much thought into every little detail so that their guests had a great time… from the Shabbat dinner the day before to the s’mores bar, it was a WONDERFUL wedding. The fact that Morris, their chocolate labradoodle, participated made it even more special. The first dance to Moon River was perfect!

Cool, Calm and Collected!

It was such a pleasure to work with Jenna and Matt! They should be everyone’s example of how to approach the wedding planning process. I never felt Jenna stress or lose her composure over the details. It was a super enjoyable day, and the guests were the recipients of a wonderful party! I do think it helped that they had a month’s honeymoon in New Zealand to look forward to!! Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Coelho!

Rain, Rain… Go Away and Come Again Some Other Day!

It was Black Friday… the day after Thanksgiving. The first big, cold storm of the Fall had come in the day before Thanksgiving. It was Lan and Kenny’s dream to have their wedding ceremony outside. But I was concerned that this would be possible. The florist had set everything up. The DJ was prepared. I worried that guests would arrive expecting an indoor ceremony at the end of November. The rain was off and on all day. At 3:00, the bride talked about moving the ceremony inside but there was not enough time to move 160 chairs nor would the DJ have been able to set speakers. We began wiping off chairs and the rain stopped at 4:00 just in time for guests to be seated. The ceremony began at 4:30 ~ NO RAIN. From that moment on, everyone could relax and enjoy the rest of a beautiful evening! This was my closest call ever… the power of prayer! Congratulations Lan and Kenny!

The Amazing Fairmont Penthouse!!

I have done many, many weddings at the Fairmont San Francisco over the years, but this was my first in the Penthouse Suite. It is a very special place! Jess and Sean wanted their guests to feel like they were in their home. There were flowers everywhere and family photos throughout the living room, dining room, entry way and the billiards room. What made it seem the most homey was Huckleberry, their dog, who roamed from room to room wearing his wedding collar! Even though there was the threat of rain right before the ceremony, the entire evening went off without a hitch. It was a beautiful wedding for a wonderful couple! Guests ended the evening in the Tonga Room. Who could ask for more??!! Congratulations Jess and Sean!

Cora and Violet

It was four years ago that I worked with Elizabeth and Ed on their wedding at the Golden Gate Club. I remember it like it was just last year! But, this week, I received an email out of the blue from Elizabeth with a family update. What a wonderful surprise! Elizabeth reported that they have two little girls and a “new” home in San Francisco. This is the best part of my job to get news from couples I have worked with over the years. Time really does fly!
